Mandatory Leave

I’ve never actually been ordered to take a vacation before, but that’s kinda the way it’s come down.

The company gives us five weeks paid leave each year and we are expected to use it or lose it by the end of the fiscal year June 30. Yours truly has been a bit delinquent, so last week my supervisor told me I pretty much need to take it now before the job change or I probably won’t get a chance before the deadline. So, I’m off until June 1.

I obviously didn’t get a chance to plan anything. About the only thing I do have planned is a scheduled meeting to get fitted for my chef’s attire for school in the fall. Other than that I’m a man of leisure. I might try to take in a movie or a play, visit a museum or see parts of the city I haven’t seen before. I need to clean my damn apartment and try to decorate it finally. I don’t exactly possess that gene however.

My tax refund came; a grand and change. I’ll put it in my mutual fund accounts where it can do some good. The long range plans for a house, a business and a secure retirement take precedence over any frivolous spending. Friday’s pay day anyway.

I also should get some writing and blogging in. There’s a short story rumbling through my brain that needs to come out.

You might want to make it to DC. It’s where we’ll be.

Hey B!
That should be a much needed and welcomed end to one J-O-B and a fresh start to another.
Shucks! 30 days. I would kill for another day less than 30!

And why not take and invest $800.00 (keep the change) and do something nice for yourself during your mandatory(vacation) leave.

Go to PRIDE! Take in a couple of movies, Go to the GAP! Visit your parents, Rent a car and take a drive somewhere far and nice (Like DC Pride!)

Whatever you decide to do with that time, HAVE FUN!!!!

Bernie, check out some of the one day trips highlighted at MTA.info. I’ll be heading to DIA: Beacon the middle of next month with my baby. I’m sure you’ll probably check out some off-Broadway fare and can’t wait to see your reviews.

Above all else: enjoy yourself and don’t worry ’bout a thing.
