It wasn’t a drop dead letter, but it was heart palpitating nonetheless.
We got word at work today that a large federal grant we were counting on to be able to save and in fact expand our program did not come through. There were two such grants from the CDC we were waiting to hear about since last week. We didn’t get either.
There are two other grants on which we are awaiting, possibly as early as next week, that might create positions we can pursue, albeit in different work. Otherwise yours truly will be back pounding the pavement come June 30.
At this point in my life, I am sooo not looking forward to job hunting.

I cannot tell you how sad this makes me. I wish you the very best and hope that in the end, things turn out for the best.
Realities such as this have me losing sleep at night. I cannot reconcile how our country can spend billions on a war, countless dollars to craft discriminatory and hatefull legislation against it citizens, and fund the campaign chest of perhaps the most destructive leader this country has seen in decades, yet our social and education programs continue to be cut at the expense of those most in need. Not to mention the jobs that are lost in wake of these cuts.
I have nothing to be proud of when I look at the American flag. I see it more as a coffin dressing these days than a symbol of freedom and prosperity for all.
Holy Smacks Bernard!
I am really sorry to hear about this situation that is taking place there at work.
I understand that there is a Black Gay AIDS Service organization in NYC who is experiencing the same thing and whose doors may be closing too, because they did not receive a grant that they were anticipating.
Maybe your organization and this other one can go to Washington and protest the CDC (or whomever the funders) directly in order to get them to see who are the faces behind the loss of funds are.
I understand that the New York State Black Gay Network had two member organizations one year that lost funding and was able to get some kind of auxiliary funding that wasn’t even publically known to assist them.
On another note, nice picture of Patti LaBelle and your director in Jet or Ebony. She was being recognized by some organization. If interested, I will look for the magazine that it was in and send you a copy.
Bernie, you have been down this road before [a time or two or three or four- I lost count :) ] and have always come out on top! You have weathered these storms before and came out still standing.
I believe that you can do it again!
Keep hope alive!
To say that this sucks would hardly be news to you, but that makes it no less true. I’m certain that you will land on your feet and I hope that come June 30 this week’s scramble is a thing of the distant past.

sorry to hear about the grant not going through, hopefully the other 2 will get approved. i’ll be praying for you bernie.
Uncle Bernie I’m sorry to hear about this job situation. As unwelcome as change can sometimes be, God may be forcing you into a new place in your life that you may not have been willing to pursue on your own. Either way, I hope things work out to your benefit in the end! *hugs*
