Answers

1. I’m a Capricorn. We are organized, methodical, level-headed, trustworthy and loyal. Where I differ, I am also an irreverent smart ass who is not nearly as serious as people think. I have a creative side that vies for equal time with any need for financial security. I am more socialist than capitalist.

2. I grew up in a small city in upstate New York, where please and thank you, sir and madam, were part of people’s vocabulary, where you treated total strangers with respect as you would want them to treat you, and where you knew if you screwed up it reflected poorly not just on you, but on your whole family. I’ve not forgotten any of that.

3. I worked at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library and Museum, the national historical site in Hyde Park, NY, as an archives aide, the summers after my senior year of high school and freshman year of college. I was an 18 year old with government security clearance, and I thought that was cool.

4. Actor. I spent a dozen years pursuing a career (and will still act if anyone asks). Income was always an adventure and struggle was my middle name, but I never had a dull or unpleasant day at the office.

5. “Show initiative.” Summer of 1980, I had a job with a struggling Black-owned magazine where we rarely got paid. The art director was this cool older brotha who reminded me of a jazz musician in his laid-backness. He told me never to wait for someone to tell me what to do next, but to show some initiative, figure out what needs doing, and do it.

6. My computer, my palm pilot, my eyeglasses, a kitchen, a tv set with cable.

7. In my bedroom you’ll find lots of mess, but also reading material. Books I start and keep meaning to finish, a pile of CDs, and some old porn I barely look at any more.

8. I got stood up, twice. First time, I waited an hour which is highly unusual. We spoke later, I gave him a second chance, and he stood me up again. Embarrassing or just stupid?

9. Intelligence is sexy; intelligence and a great personality is sexier.

10. In my own house, gainfully self-employed, someplace other than New York City. Possibly raising an adopted child or two.

1. I’m a Pisces (sun in Pisces, moon in Virgo, 3rd decan, and a bunch of other astrological hoohah). In many ways I am a true Pisces - I’m compassionate, sensitive, imaginiative, creative, and mystical. I don’t see myself as being indecisive or vague though - I often try to make things as explicit as possible concerning whatever the issue may be.

2. I was born in Selma, Alabama but raised mostly in Bogue Chitto on a small farm. I think that has helped me a lot as far as where I am in life now because you get used to having the bare necessities and being resourceful. It also has helped me to learn humility and a love for animals - being a genius don’t mean shit when you’re milkin’ Bessie at 5am.

3. My first job was cutting lawns in West Selma. My first job with an employer/corporation/business was with Pizza Hut as a pizza cook when I was sixteen.

4. My best/favorite job was with CollegeClub.com. I was a marketing representative for the Atlanta University Center. It was a blast! Meeting cute boys, making tons of money, and honing my photography skills. It was gold! Then the company went bankrupt.

5. Never forget where you came from.

6. My computer, water, food, shelter, and “The Phantom Tollbooth” by Norton Juster.

7. My bed, a TV/VCR, some CD’s, a poster of the Eiiffel Tower getting struck by lightning, and my nightstand. Pretty minimalist, eh?

8. Embarassing? I’ve never really had an embarassing date, but I’ve had tons of abyssmal ones.

9. Intelligence is sexy, humility is sexier.

10. Well-employed in a job I can stomach, financially stable, back in California, and hopefully still single.

Ahh… finally something interesting to do at work… hahahahahhaha.

1. Leo… I’m like that by being strong willed, determined, open minded and generous. Unlike the typical Leo, I don’t take everything in life all that serious anymore, I laugh a lot more. Leadership qualities are there, but I sit back observing what others are doing (study behavioral patterns)… and I do like it when the joke is on me (especially if it’s funny as hell).

2. I grew up in mixed neighborhood in NYC (upper Manhattan - Washington Heights). Although it’s since become “the other Dominican Republic”, when I was growing up we were Black, Latino, Irish, Greek, etc. all rolled into one neighborhood. We called an Irishman “Grandpa” and regularly ate at one another’s homes which gave me the opportunity to experience something different. It helped me learn to judge people for who they are as individuals, not the ethnic group to which they belong and also showed me trying new things can be fun.

3. First job outside of chores at home was as a mechanic’s helper with my father when I was 12. Worked during the summer on 116th Street and 8th Ave in Manhattan. From that summer I learned a few things… 1) this is meaningful work, just not my calling 2) One shouldn’t overtighten the lugs on some’s tires with the air wrench 3)that hand cleaner stuff really works… now let’s see it work on more grease and grime and 4)porno magazines are easy to find in a garage.

4. Favorite job was as a crew chief at a summer camp. I learned to select and manage staff, ensured we had a few cuties for me to look at, and got to go on trips too.

5. Best advice was opportunities offered that do not cause harm to you or others should be strongly considered. They may often lead to future opportunities.

6. Five items I can’t live without… heart, brain, my remote control (lawd, will a brotha walk around to find that.. hahahah), the ability to travel and ability to continuously learn.

7. In my bedroom you’ll find.. computer, tv, DVD, VCR, radio/cd, clothes steamer, years and years of photos (stored) and music… oh, did I forget there’s a bed too…

8. During an intimate, fully clothed moment… I ejaculated in my pants…. a lot… wearing khakis (do you know how fast that stuff seeps through)… hey, I was young.

9. A good conversationalist is sexy… a good conversationalist with a sense of humor is sexier.

10. In 5 years, I’d like to be a financially secure loving father of a respectful, knowledge hungry child in a job offering flexibility, good benefits, much vacation and good pay. I’m still undecided as to the physical “where” part.
