Ain’t Much to Say
But I hate seeing a blog with old stuff on it. So here goes nothing, literally.
The best baseball team in New York City can’t get any love from the New York sports media. The Mets, in first place in the National League East with the second best record in all of Major League Baseball, took two out of three games this past week against that dysfunctional franchise from the Bronx, and all anybody around here wants to report is how that team lost, and how that team’s rookie pitcher helped them avoid getting swept. I guess we’ll just have to win the World Series to get any respect around here.
Saturday afternoon, I just happened to change channels in time to catch the Preakness from start to finish. I only watch three horse races a year and that was a pretty darn exciting two minutes. Curlin nosed out Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, so once again there will be no triple crown winner this year. But the Belmont Stakes may shape up to be yet another exciting duel between these two thoroughbreds.
I got a letter from my union the other day and I’ve been randomly chosen to be on the nominating committee for the television categories for the upcoming awards. Real cool! They said I should expect lots of promotional letters and DVDs in the mail. Let the campaigning begin.
Former President Jimmy Carter read the collective mind of the American people and dared to speak the truth. The worst president the free world has ever or will ever witness, dared to call him irrelevant. Carter, who since leaving office, has won the Nobel Peace Prize, authored more than 20 books, and established the Carter Center to promote global health, democracy and human rights, later backed off his remarks.
Air America Radio, the progressive response to conservative talk radio, relaunched Monday with a new website and ad campaign. "The completely redesigned website will give Air America listeners another platform to participate in the progressive movement through an interactive blog where they can read and give commentary on topical issues of the day," said Mark Green, the new president of Air America. Green is a former Public Advocate for the City of New York and a past candidate for Mayor.
The network's hosts will begin to regularly blog along with Nancy Scola, who has been chosen as Air America's chief blogger. Nancy Scola is a Brooklyn-based blogger and writer who has served as a congressional aide and a presidential campaign staffer; she writes widely online, on everything from the latest in technology policy to the rebuilding of New Orleans.
Posted by bernie at May 22, 2007 1:09 AMI was anxious to read something new from you and you do not disappoint. I understand your frustration as a METS fan. As a Yankee fan, I wish the media would leave them alone and let them work their issues out. Oh well...that's what happens when you are the greatest franchise in sports.
I'm so glad to hear that Air America is back up and running. I'm a huge fan of its programming. Although some are more entertaining then they are informative, I love the format.
Finally,
Jimmy Carter is a great American. He is earned the right to say exactly what he feels...When my grandmother reach 75 she lost her mute button. People of this age and stature get to speak their mind...
Posted by: Albert at May 23, 2007 10:07 AMOh, there's no debating the Yankee's past accomplishments. But they are in fact all in the past. They have no pitching, even Mariano Rivera's best years are behind him, and they haven't reached .500 this year. The Red Sox would have to revert to their pre-2004 level of mediocrity to lose this lead.
Meanwhile the Mets keep winning with complete team harmony and unity. Our third baseman and shortstop actually like each other! Our owner let's the baseball people make the baseball decisions. I guess the NY sports media prefers unnecessary drama.

Posted by: Kevin at May 24, 2007 8:34 AMFirst off, soap operas are not produced under a SAG contract (they're AFTRA) and are thus ineligible for the SAG Awards.
Second, even if they were...child, please!
Posted by: Bernie at May 24, 2007 2:45 PMis that why it's been rated no. 1 for the past 962 consecutive weeks - 18.5 years?
