Pop Quiz

I used to do these fairly frequently in the early years of this blog, but I see it has been almost two years since the last one.

You know the drill. Answer all questions. Show all work. No cheating off your neighbors. Did you bring a Number 2 penciL? Well, you won’t need it, this is on a computer screen, stupid.

Get at it.

1. So, how have you spent your summer vacation?

2. What three things do you most want to accomplish before the end of the year?

3. This is the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. A year from now, how far along do you think the Gulf Coast will be towards recovery?

4. In the movie of your life, who gets cast to play you (and you can’t play yourself)?

5. Is your overall health and fitness better or worse than it was a year ago?

6. Are your personal finances better or worse than they were a year ago?

7. How’s your love life?

8. Seen any good movies lately? Seen any bad ones? Are you looking forward to any upcoming ones in particular?

9. Will the Republicans lose control of Congress this November or will the Democrats find a way to fumble a clear opportunity?

10. Schools across the country will open up in the next few days and weeks. What was your favorite grade and what teacher had the most positive impact on you?

1. In a word, unemployed. The search for work has been hindered by the need to once again reinvent myself, a task I loathe. I need a job that will pay me well, but give me time to enjoy all the other things I do. In other words, not be all-consuming. So, this summer has been slow.

2. Find a job I can tolerate, if not enjoy. Retire some debt. Buy a laptop computer.

3. I think a year from now New Orleans will be further along than the rest of the Gulf Coast, but most of the region will still be under-redeveloped. Damage from last year still hasn’t been moved away in many cases, forget about the rebuilding effort. And with hurricanes an annual occurrence, who knows if there will be new damage. Will old residents return or new residents want to settle there?

4. For some reason Hill Harper comes to mind. He doesn’t look much like me, but kind of carries the same energy I do (or at least his on-screen personas have).

5. I feel better than I did a year ago. I work out regularly, eat well and I’m toned in every place except my midsection, a reality I’ve come to accept. I’ve got more strength, endurance and stamina as well.

6. Slightly worse. Not having a steady income hasn’t helped. I’m optimistic that if I can find something soon, things won’t get worse.

7. What love life? Next question.

8. Haven’t seen any good or bad ones lately and haven’t been moved to go to the movies either. Half Nelson and Hollywoodland interest me a little.

9. I pray America does the right thing and shifts the majority to the Democrats, but the party of which I am a member has an incredible ability to shoot itself in the foot at every turn. They are running from the issues that will connect with voters and give them the edge.

10. I think 9th grade was my best year and the last time I felt smart as a grade school student, although I think it was my 12th grade English teacher, Mr. Johnson, (I think he was my 12th grade English teacher, it has been so long) who recognized my writing ability and encouraged it.

1. Running home to various events that have been going on there, but my last 2 visits home (this past weekend and 2 weeks ago) were the best. 2 weeks ago my lil sis got married and this past weekend was my 15 year HS reunion, which was a really good time.

2. Develop a more visually appealing blog, finish getting my apartment decorated & be part of positive changes for Black gay men in Philly.

3. Because there still doesn't seem to be the level of attention and resources dedicated to improving New Orleans and the levees, my prediction is that the city will still be in a compromised position next year.

4. Awwwww come on, Fantasia, got to play herself in hers. Lets see...........if someone else had to play me I'd want it to be Omar Epps, once upon a time I was told that we resembled a little bit, mostly around the eyes.

5. Most definitely worse this year......gotta work on that!

6. A little bit better since I got a raise, but still have several issues that need to be worked out.

7. Good. Me and the man have been together almost a year in a half.

8. I don't get to the movies often, but I do want to see Idlewild, though it's not getting good reviews. I would like to see Dreamgirls when it comes out.

9. One can only hope they will, but nothing is a sureshot these days, so I will just sit back and see what happens.

10.I don't think I really had a favorite grade, but I suppose it'd be the 12th, since it was the last year of HS :-) I can't say that I had a favorite teacher back then either, but I remember my homeroom teacher caring and even making home visits on occassion, so I'll give Mr. Hupe' a shout out.

1. Work and spending countless days fretting if my mortgage would be approved.

2. (a) Travel to NYC (b) Visit Cuba (c) COming out to my mother and sisters.

3. Sooner rather than later.

4. Cuba Gooding, jr.

5. Worse. Age is catching up on me ... tennis elbow, bad shoulder. But, overall I feel better cause I am more in aerobics.

6. Flip, flop.

7. How’s your love life? Don't have one.

8. Inside Man. Yes, SpiderMan III.

9. The American public seems pissed with the Republicans but I think the GOP will pull through. With the gerrymandering that the republicans have been up to plus the fact that the Dems need to pick up about 17 seats, the odds are in favour of the GOP which has a 29 seat advantage. But, it's not too late for a shower of rain.

10. Grade 2 and my grade 2 teacher. She always believed in me. Thanks, Mrs. McCrae.

1. I spent my summer vacation learning more than I ever wanted to know about t-shirts and shopping carts.

2. 1)complete my first book 2)complete Promo/Trailer demo 3)Book a gig on another animated show

3. some progress will be made but the city will still be in ruins

4. I'd never trust another actor to play me.

5. my health is the same as it was last year but my fitness is by far much worse. I haven't seen the inside of a gym in over a year.

6. Ha. The stories I could tell

7. Now is not the time.

8. Good movies - The Devil Wears Prada; Big Momma's House 2; Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Bad movies - Final Destination 3; Aeon Flux;

I'm not looking forward to anything right now.

9. Americans are overly concerned about moral issues and being control of other people's lives. For that reason, I don't think the Rep will lose as many seats in Congress as they should.

10. My favorite teacher was my 5th & 6th grade teacher Mrs Thompson. She was very into teaching life lessons. One of the things she tried to instill in her students was to stand their ground on topics and issues despite being pressured to change their viewpoint. She always said if you know you know something never let anyone tell you differently, including me.

1. So, how have you spent your summer vacation?
I have spent my summer vacation in a lot of thought it seems like. I didn’t take one big trip but I took a few small weekend excursions, one of which was a white water rafting trip that was really fun.
2. What three things do you most want to accomplish before the end of the year?
Another vacation. A really good kiss. Invest.
3. This is the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. A year from now, how far along do you think the Gulf Coast will be towards recovery?
The physical will take several more years. The emotional and psychological damage will take at least a generation.
4. In the movie of your life, who gets cast to play you (and you can’t play yourself)?
Anthony Mackie or Taye Diggs.
5. Is your overall health and fitness better or worse than it was a year ago?
Better than year ago.
6. Are your personal finances better or worse than they were a year ago?
Better.
7. How’s your love life?
Bizarre.
8. Seen any good movies lately? Seen any bad ones? Are you looking forward to any upcoming ones in particular?
I loved The Devil Wears Prada and oddly enough I liked Pirates. I am looking forward to Dreamgirls in December.
9. Will the Republicans lose control of Congress this November or will the Democrats find a way to fumble a clear opportunity?
I can only pray.
10. Schools across the country will open up in the next few days and weeks. What was your favorite grade and what teacher had the most positive impact on you?
12th grade was the best and I cant pick one – Ms. O’Leary and Mrs. Urogdy both made a huge impact on my life.
